Why do I need this medicine?
Pneumococcal vaccine (10-valent) is used to prevent infections caused pneumococcus (Streptococcus pneumoniae) bacterium in infants and children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age.

This vaccine protects against 10 types of pneumococcal bacteria. Pneumococcal bacteria can spread from person to person through close contact and it can cause infections of the ear, lungs, blood, brain, and spinal cord.
How do I use this medicine?
Pneumococcal vaccine is to be given intramuscularly (into the muscle of the thigh or upper arm).

A doctor or nurse will administer the injection to your child.
What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?
Ensure that you keep all appointments with the doctor so that your child do not miss any immunisations.

If you miss an appointment or an injection, alert your child’s doctor or nurse. A replacement appointment or injection should be given as soon as possible.
When should I not use this medicine?
Do not use this vaccine if your child ever had an allergic reaction (rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to Pneumococcal vaccine.
What should I take note of while using this medicine?
Inform your doctor if your child has the following conditions:
  • moderate or severe illness (with or without fever)
  • bleeding disorders
  • less than 2 years of age with HIV infection
  • born too early (prematurely born baby)
This medicine is not intended to treat pneumococcal infections.
What side effects could I experience?
Pneumococcal vaccine may cause any of the following side effects: drowsiness, loss of appetite, fever, irritability and redness, pain, swelling, tenderness, and bruising at the injection site.

Alert your doctor quickly if your child experience signs and symptoms of allergic reaction e.g. rashes, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, mouth, lips, tongue, or throat.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I use this with other medicines?
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if your child is taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in the refrigerator, between 2-8°C.

Do not allow to freeze. Protect from light.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
